Vienna Becomes First City In The World With Own Internet Domain

The capital of Austria, Vienna, has become the first city in the world to have its own internet domain.
The extension “.wien” is the world’s first ‘TLD’ (Top-level Domain) for a city and its presentation took place on Monday 3 March at the Vienna City Hall.  Authorities have been planning its launch for years and it should already have been launched in 2010. According to city councillor Christian Oxonitsch (SPÖ), through this domain the city will become more easily seen.

They have already kicked off the following site http://www.seestadt.wien which is the official site for the ‘Seestadt Aspern project’.
