Say No To The New Chilean Dog-Hunting Law!

The Comptroller’s General Office took the decision to enact a Decree which modifies Article 65 of the Hunting Law. The law by now expanded, hereby authorises the killing of “wild” dogs in rural areas. These areas are defined as being located 400+ metres from any human settlement.

This savage reform doesn’t solve the lack of public policies. The solution is called responsible ownership, not mass killing.

Why should they (the animals), who are the victims, be responsible for this? Why should they pay the price? Why?

Where are the ‘so called’ owners who dumped them? Why did these people get hold of these animals in the first place if they weren’t going to be committed to them?

In Chile, people are in general – which you may observe if you ever visit the country – brute and harsh to animals. Be it to their own pets or “wild” animals. Every single day, dogs, cats and other animals, but mostly dogs, are dumped on streets, parks and other public spaces. The next day, there’s a new dog in town and people will hardly blink. This callousness may severely shock somebody coming from a country where you don’t see animals roaming streets and other public spaces.

By using the words “in general”, I’m not implying that literally everybody is harsh to animals.

More information on this slaughter can be found here.

Please, share this post! It’s urgent to let the rest of the world know what’s going on in Chile!
