Alstom To Set Up Tramway Factory In Brazil

Alstom will open a tramway factory in Brazil, this in order to coordinate the delivery of tramways to Brazil and South America. It will be built at the existing hydro manufacturing site in Taubaté and is meant to target the booming Brazilian and Latin American tram markets. It will cover an area of 16,000m².

One of the first deliveries will be to a new system which is to be built in Rio de Janeiro. 32 tramways will be delivered for a 28 kilometre long catenary-free system. The first trams are estimated to be arriving in early 2015 and the last ones arriving in mid-2016, just in time for that year’s Summer Olympics.
