The consortium of CAF and Thales were yesterday, November 25, awarded a US$451·9m contract by Metro de Santiago, this to supply CBTC signalling and rolling stock for Lines 3 and 6 which currently are being built. Spanish CAF will supply and be in charge of maintenance of 115 carriages for Line 3 and 70 for Line 6.

Carriages running on Lines 3 and 6 will be driverless and steel-wheeled. They will also come equipped with air-conditioning, onboard CCTV and passenger information systems. Stations will have platform screen doors.

The construction of these two lines and the state-of-the-art technology applied, will turn Metro de Santiago into one of the most modern underground systems in the world.
