The Talca – Constitución railbus line has now been rebuilt. It was almost completely damaged during the 2010 Chile Earthquake, a 8.8-magnitude earthquake which still ranks as the sixth largest in history.
The railbus line is extremely important as it serves a dual purpose, it’s important as a mean of transport for the villages located along the line and it’s also regarded as a quaint tourist attraction. Thus, it generates income for aforementioned villages.
The earthquake occurred off the coast of the central parts of the country on Saturday, 27 February 2010, at 03:34 local time. It lasted for approximately three minutes (!) which is very, very long when it comes to earthquakes.
525 people died and 25 are still missing.
