4th Century Roman Amphitheatre Unearthed in Split

Archaeologists have unearthed the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre in the centre of Split. They believe the remains are from the 4th century.

The remains are part of a complex built by Emperor Diocletian, who retired to Split. His waterfront palace is today the city’s foremost tourist attraction. The remains were found under Domovinskog Rata, which is one of the city’s most important streets.
