The Future Aubagne Tramway (France)

Alstom Transport thought of the needs of medium-sized towns and decided to tailor to them. By ‘medium-sized’ they mean towns between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants. We often come to think of cities when you hear the words ‘tramway’ or ‘light rail’ but now it’s also possible for minor towns to have the same chance, namely to acquire tramways in order to solve their own mass transit problems.

Citadis Compact is energy efficient as it uses permanent-magnet motors, it’s effective in terms of capacity and has a long lifespan. Citadis Compact measures 22 metres and can transport 130 passengers.

The Pays d’Aubagne et de l’Étoile metropolitan region was the first one to venture out and purchase the brand new Citadis Compact.

The livery was created by artist Hervé Di Rosa and local school children.

The town of Aubagne has approximately 47,000 inhabitants and is located right outside of Marseille, in the Bouches-Du-Rhône department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

The tramway network will eventually become 14 km long and consist of two lines. It’s slated for completion in 2019.
